Rising Dampness mainly occurs in buildings constructed pre 1940 when damp proof courses as such were unknown.
Moisture present in the ground will rise through any porous material, and the height it will achieve will be influenced by the amount of moisture in the soil and the height of the water table. This can vary depending on the time of year and the recent weather conditions, but usually it evens off at a height of about 3 to 4 ft.

Rising dampness carries up with it, salts from the soil, these salts are hygroscopic salts and have the ability of absorbing water vapor from the atmosphere, which means that wherever these salts accumulate they add considerably to the moisture level in the wall.

REMEDIAL ACTION:

We recommend removal of all affected internal plaster to a height of approx. 3-4ft. exposing the original wall.

TREATMENT - Dampco pressure inject a horizontal chemical damp proof course into the base of the wall, using MINISILAN high performance aqueous DPC. MINISILAN is a low odour/non flammable injection fluid, to form a continuous damp proof course.

The plaster on the wall can then be reinstated incorporating a salts inhibitor, to prevent hygroscopic salts accumulating and attacking new plaster.
