There are many reasons why a building suffers from damp penetration. The main reasons are faulty rain water goods such as gutters, down pipes, leaking valleys, or a combination of these. The seals around windows if weak or broken can cause a lot of damage. In garden level rooms or basements if the soil or path is higher than the damp proof course, or if the exterior walls are allowing rain water through, this can cause severe damp penetration.

REMEDIAL ACTION: PREPARATION - Repair the fault. Remove all wet and contaminated internal plaster.
| TREATMENT - Apply a sand and cement scratch coat to the area of wall affected internally. Dampco apply two coats of a cementitious water proofing compound, followed by a further scud and scratch in sand and cement incorporating a salts inhibitor to prevent breakdown of new plaster while wall is drying out. This is then followed by a hard wall finish. This system is known as a sandwich membrane and is an excellent method for treating damp penetration. |
